African Quilt

A client approached me this week with an unusual request. This lady is a Doctor who travels to African regularily to tend to African women. A local lady would often accompany her to help these ladies. The local lady fell ill and died of cancer a few years ago. The lady was buried in a Zimbobway (sp) dress and head dress- her daughters gave the Doctor her good friend the head dress after the funeral- Two of the Daughters are pregnant and her friend came in with the head dress and asked me to make two baby quilts and include the fabric in them. However, my challenge was that I could only use a minimal amount of the fabric as there is not much and more babies would be coming at some point. The two choices I made that would work and incorporate a small amount of the beautiful fabric. I did test squares for her to approve two different patterns as she did not want them the same- hopefully these will work for her!!

Dignity Quilt presentation

This was the presentation of the Dignity Quilt to the Residents at the Extendicare Nursing home in Haileybury- The pictures of the quilt are not so great but the residents were very appreciative of the quilt. The back of the quilt has squares of clothing that residents gave me to add to the quilt- This quilt will be laid over the residents as they make their final journey down the hall and out of the nursing home.

Update

Hi: Just wanted to let everyone know that I am still in the land of quilting . It has been a hectic three weeks. We were blessed with a visit from Michael (gandbaby) for two weeks then Michael and I went and visited Quilting Newbie and Quilting Newbie's mom (sister) . Unfortunately ,I came down with the flu for the first three days and that truly did cut into our quilt fabric buying. But rallied on day 4 to go out with Quilting Newbie and Mom Newbie and spend some serious money that was burning a hole in my pocket - Quilting Newbie has been telling me about her favourite quilt shop and I finally got to shop in it. It is a wonderful quilt shop and the quilt staff were amazing. I bought material for a commissioned baby quilt . I have to finish our row blocks and then on to the baby one. Baby quilts are my favourite- quick and soooo cute! Will post pictures as soon as these projects are finished.
